About

Bangkok does not give you one story. It gives you twenty, happening simultaneously, in every direction. The skill is not in finding something to photograph. The skill is in deciding what the photograph is about. This workshop is built around that question. Over three days we will work specifically on narrative, on what it means to build a body of images that holds together, that moves, that says something beyond the single frame. December is a good month in Bangkok. The heat eases, the light softens, and the city continues to do what it always does, which is offer an almost unlimited supply of human life happening in public, with a kind of unself-conscious openness that is rare anywhere else in the world. We will shoot in the markets, the lanes, the temples, the streets in between. We will review and sequence every day. By the end, the goal is not a folder of photographs. The goal is the beginning of a story you can call your own.

Why This Workshop?

Story First

Most workshops focus on individual images. This one focuses on what comes next — building a sequence of photographs that holds together, moves, and means something. Bangkok provides the material. The workshop provides the method.

Small Group

Eight participants only. Every review session is personal. Every edit is discussed. You leave knowing exactly what your photographs are doing and why.

A Body of Work

Three days of focused shooting and daily reviews means you don't just take photographs home. You take a coherent set of images with a point of view, images that belong together.
