About
Nothing prepares you for Maha Kumbh. It is the largest peaceful human gathering on earth, a fact that becomes incomprehensible when you are standing inside it. Taking place in Ujjain, millions of pilgrims, naga sadhus, tents stretching for miles, the Sangam at dawn. Spirituality at a scale that overwhelms every sense. As photographers, our job is to find the human inside the immense, the single face, the one gesture, the moment of genuine feeling inside all of that spectacle. That is what this six-day masterclass is about. Come ready to work harder than you ever have.
What Makes This Workshop Unique?
We've been photographing the Maha Kumbh for years. Not just documenting it, but trying to understand it. From Prayagraj in 2001 and 2013 to Ujjain in 2016, and most recently in 2025, each Kumbh has shaped the way we see and work. Ujjain 2028 is a continuation of that journey, and we bring that experience into how we guide you. This is not about chasing the obvious. It's about learning to see through the chaos.
Insider Access
The Kumbh can feel overwhelming. We help you navigate it with clarity, knowing where to be, when to wait, and what to ignore.
Personalised Feedback
We won't just tell you what works. We'll tell you what doesn't and why. The idea is to push your work forward, not just make you feel good about it.
A Body of Work that Matters
You won't just come back with random images. You'll start to build a set of photographs that hold together, that say something.
Maha Kumbh is intense. That's where the work begins.
The 2028 edition is poised to be a photographer's dream, offering a visual feast of humanity's collective faith. From the intricately adorned sadhus with their ash-smeared bodies to the fervent chants rising with the smoke of sacred fires, every moment encapsulates the essence of devotion. It's a rare opportunity for photographers to capture the raw, unfiltered beauty of a spiritual carnival that transcends time and space.
APF is organising a 6 day intensive workshop which is tailor made to cater to needs of anyone who wishes to train their eyes to find order in chaos of this years Maha Kumbh Mela held in Ujjain. Street photography is very rewarding but at the same time, one of the hardest genres to master. This workshop would help ease the anxiety next time you hit the streets, would help solve the puzzle of composing compelling images in split seconds and most importantly it would help you to see.
